About this deal

If you're taking paracetamol for a short-lived pain like a headache, you may only need to take it for a day or two. Paracetamol: Paracetamol is absorbed rapidly and completely from the small intestine, producing peak plasma levels after 15-20 minutes following oral dosing. The systemic availability is subject to first-pass metabolism and varies with dose between 70% and 90%. The drug is rapidly and widely distributed throughout the body and is eliminated from plasma with a T½ of approximately 2 hours. The major metabolites are glucuronide and sulphate conjugates (>80%) which are excreted in urine. Only logged-in Which? members can view the infant and child pain-relief survey results. The same two doses may be given for other causes of fever or mild to moderate pain provided that the infant weighs more than 4 kg and was not born before 37 weeks gestation.

Medicines and their possible side effects can affect individual people in different ways. The following are some of the side effects that are known to be associated with Resolve. Just because a side effect is stated here, it does not mean that all people using this medicine will experience that or any side effect. The body produces prostaglandins in response to injury and certain diseases. One of the effects of prostaglandins is to sensitise nerve endings, causing pain (presumably to prevent us from causing further harm to the area). As paracetamol reduces the production of these nerve sensitising prostaglandins it is thought it may increase our pain threshold, so that although the cause of the pain remains, we can feel it less. Age 10 years up to 12 years take 20 ml (5 ml + 5 ml + 5 ml + 5 ml) up to 4 times in any 24 hours. If you are taking an anticoagulant medicine such as warfarin it is fine to take occasional doses of paracetamol to relieve pain or fever. However, long-term or regular use of paracetamolmay potentiallyincrease the anti-blood-clotting effect of anticoagulants, leading to an increased risk of bleeding. It contains paracetamol and is used to help with fever, colds, earache, sore throats and general pains. An infant who has taken too much paracetamol might have nausea and vomiting that settles within 24 hours. If nothing is done immediately, the symptoms can start again after two to three days, along with tummy pain on the right hand side – and this indicates the development of liver damage. Caution should be taken when paracetamol is used concomitantly with flucloxacillin as concurrent intake has been associated with high anion gap metabolic acidosis, especially in patients with risks factors (see section 4.4
