The standard tele spin rod (TEXBXTS27M) is a medium rod of 2.7m in length. This collapses to a travel length of 65cm and weighs 154g. The equivalent mini tele spin rod (TEXBXMTS27M) is also a medium rod of 2.7m. This miniature version collapses to 38cm and weighs only 158g. The EVA handles are durable and easily maintained and offer a non slip grip, ideal when fishing into the surf. Overall, I am pretty happy with the Magreel Telescopic Rod & Reel. It’s well-made and seems very durable. The stainless steel hooded reel seat is a nice touch and makes the reel corrosion-resistant. The rod is fitted throughout with Shimano stainless steel hardlite guides and these combine a light yet robust anodised steel frame with an aluminium oxide liner. These guides offer the perfect balance of strength and performance.

My only complaint is that the gears don’t seem quite as smooth as I would like them to be, but overall it’s a decent sea reel for the price. Light drop shot fishing or spinning are an ideal use for this rod. A go anywhere telescopic rod that is available in three lengths, this is ideal for a fishing holiday or an opportunist day at the beach! The PENN Squadron is a tough and durable fast action rod that will stand up to the rigours of sea lure fishing. They also come in various travel models which some anglers will find advantageous. First, the line included with the kit is not very good quality and tends to break easily. Second, the crank hooks could be a bit sharper. And finally, the jig hooks could also be more sturdy.
