From comedy superstar Romesh Ranganathan comes a hilarious and heartfelt tale that proves rap battles and baking muffins really can mix. Revealing how he came to write a children’s book, the stand-up told Chris: “It kind of happened by accident, I was on holiday. A lot of the time, whenever I'm on holiday is when I have an idea for a new show, or a bit stand-up or something like that.

Romesh Ranganathan commented, “I have wanted to write a children's book for ages but only if it combined baking and rapping – thankfully I have managed to make that dream come true. I came up with the idea on holiday and annoyed my family talking about it non-stop! It's been fantastic working with Puffin and James to create Lil’ Muffin Drops The Mic. I'm excited for it to create a generation of baking rappers or baking Karate experts or dancing bakers. This book is about being whatever and whoever you want!”

Lil’ Muffin Drops the Mic is inspired by Romesh’s well-known love of hip-hop, rap music and his less well-known love of baking! His debut children’s book introduces a whole host of relatable characters, heartfelt moments and hilariously embarrassing escapades that show everyone (just like Romesh) can - with a little help from their friends – find something they’re good at. Grime artist Brukka (who looks a lot like Romesh in the illustrations) is looking for young talent and James thinks that this could be his big break, but with everything going on he isn’t sure he has the confidence to make it. My agent kind of says, ‘Have a great trip, I look forward to hearing whatever it is you've come up with while you’re away!’. So on this particular holiday, I thought of the story of James, and then I didn't think anything more of it, I just thought that'll be a cool thing to think about later. And then as I carried on, it kind of started hooking into me. And then I wrote the beats for the story on a napkin on the plane on the way home.”Romesh Ranganathan is best known as a comedian, actor, writer, and bestselling author. Being a former maths teacher he is well versed in the hilarity, mischief, trials and tribulations of school aged children, having three of his own also, and has brought to life a diverse and engaging cast of characters in a comical story that will delight readers of all ages, especially fans of David Baddiel, Humza Arshad and Jeff Kinney. It’s not long before James starts writing his own raps about everything – from music and cakes to his giant pet rabbit, Graham! So when he hears that grime artist star Brukka is on the hunt for young talent, James starts to wonder: could this be his chance to share his MUFFINS, his MUSIC, and maybe even his feelings with the whole school? If he could only find the confidence . . . His dad has upped and left the family alone and the school bully, Alfie Adams has it in for him. He is called ‘Scabby Bake’ by his peers who refuse to eat his cakes on the say-so of Alfie and now he’s discovered rapping but the words just won’t come out when he rap battles. Full of laugh-out-loud illustrations from bestselling illustrator James Lancett, this is the children's read of the summer! About This Edition ISBN:
