About this deal

It is very matter-of-fact, which I think is the best approach and is accompanied by appealing illustrations. Highly recommend for the death of a pet or loved one, it's a difficult topic but this book has definitely helped. The majority of pages are undamaged with some creasing or tearing, and pencil underlining of text, but this is minimal. Note: some are religous or concern afterlife concepts and some do not:When Dinaosaurs Die by Laura Krasney Brown and Marc BrownWhats Heaven? This is a GREAT book for explaining the subject of lifetimes to children, especially in the 3-5 year old range.

A wonderful way to introduce life and death issues to children who are grieving/preparing for the death of a loved one.Later we could talk about our hopes and fears, but during the book we felt the calm rythm of the mystery of life. I don't think it's the only book that you will want, and there are others that better explain the emotions of grief. At first, they are bright and quick, but as time passes they begin to slow down, until finally they can go no further.

The message, communicated as much through the graceful illustrations as through the words, is that the brevity of these creatures lives does not make them less beautiful or wonderous. I also appreciated that this was an entirely secular take on death, focusing only on death and not the questions about what, if anything, happens afterward. This guidebook offers a comprehensive, easy-to-read overview of how children grieve and strategies to support them. The book's authors conclude with "So, no matter how long they are, or how short, lifetimes are really all the same. When a close friend or family member dies, it can be difficult for children to express their feelings.A year and a half after my granddaughter died, when i re-read this book I still find comfort and a kind of acceptance.
