About this deal

The bag is attached by a flexible plastic skirt, which isn't very secure, and comes apart in places very easily. The bag is 40 litres and the strimmer affair at the top of the suction tube breaks the leaves down on a 3:1 ratio which means they are finely shredded and will break down into valuable leaf mould much quicker. The petals were dry and my previous vac would have picked them up without a problem, but the nozzle of this vac needs to be held so close to the ground it makes it hard work picking anything up. Had my old Flymo Vac for around ten years, it gave up the ghost finally when the trigger mechanism went floppy and stopped working. I then found that the air being discharged from the top of the machine (it has to expel somewhere), was blowing away what I was trying to suck up meaning I had to be extremely precise in the path (and angle) I was trying to vacuum.

The same goes for the strap; the original is broader and has a shoulder pad, so has been transferred to the new machine. The GardenVac worked on a “venturi air mover” principle, whereas the Sirocco just uses a fast axial fan to move the air. Check the motor brushes: Over time, the motor brushes in your Garden Vac can wear down, leading to a loss of power or a complete failure to turn on.

The next thing I found was that the little wheel at the front meant that I had to hold the vac at a near vertical angle to get the nozzle close enough to the ground to suck up anything, so that went next. JustAnswer is not intended or designed for EMERGENCY questions which should be directed immediately by telephone or in-person to qualified professionals. They got back to me very quickly and reckoned the bag problem may have been caused by incorrect packaging. In general, it's important to regularly maintain and service your Garden Vac to prevent issues from occurring.

This may require opening up the machine, so if you're not comfortable doing this, it's best to contact a professional repair service. The power requirements of the blower match the power of the generator so I'm not sure whats happening! Also, the ‘jet vacuum function’ for blasting wet leaves and loosening them before sucking them up does sometimes just blast them away before you can vacuum them into the bag. There is a newer 3000 model available but the vacuum chute seemed quite narrow and I thought it would be more susceptible to blockages.

With a collection capacity of 40 litres and a shredding ratio of 3:1, leaves are no task for this blower vac.
