About this deal

Dicebreaker is owned by Gamer Network Limited, a ReedPop company and subsidiary of Reed Exhibitions Limited.

Here are some of our more lighthearted things to show we're not all about the Serious Business of games. They hand in their badge and can no longer make a guess but they are still in the game and play as normal. Each player’s role and team are randomly assigned at the start of play and include the unique roles of Forensic Scientist, Witness, Investigator, Murderer, and Accomplice. The Scientist has the solution but can express the clues only using special scene tiles while the investigators (and the murderer) attempt to interpret the evidence.By condensing the action into just one round, the game removes the need for either a referee or player elimination, meaning no-one has to miss out on the action. The curve of the game is always towards being enjoyable and the style of the puzzle it presents you keeps everything tractable without actually making it any easier.

Though the concept is simple, Werewords is a unique take on the hidden role genre that’s greater than the sum of its parts. This game can be a bit complex for casual gamers, but that just makes it more difficult to find out which player(s) is/are actually a government spy working to thwart the resistance. This would make things very hard for the murderer, but the game balances this out well with one caveat – if the murderer can guess the identity of the witness at the end of the game, they win. The forensic scientist replaces what they deem to be the least useful clue (but cannot remove the location or cause tiles) with the next one from the face down deck. The murderer does so, revealing themselves to the scientist, and the murderer points to one of the four murder weapons in front of them and one of their four pieces of evidence. Their hope is that they can direct them towards the murderer along with the correct clue and correct weapon. If I’m honest, I was ready to be cynical about a game that’s so obviously a mash-up of mechanics from other games rather than something truly new, but actually, Deception doesn’t feel like either of the games that inspired it.

But severe injury is very ambiguous and loss of blood wasn’t the cause of death but it might be closest? Based on the reboot of the classic 70s television show that aired starting in 2004, this is an exceptional tabletop game where players must figure out who the traitors are while trying to stay one step ahead of the Cylons. However, with the roleplaying and questions stripped away, The Chameleon feels less like an interrogation - and is therefore less stressful than many titles on this list. The players are crewing a spaceship and must handle a never-ending series of crises, from food shortages to enemy ships in hot pursuit, all while hidden Cylons work to sabotage their efforts. I’ve only played with bigger groups so we always use the Accomplice and Witness rules which also helps make things more exciting! I had noticed the increasing mentions about the rise of fascism in other countries (1930's) as the show went on, with the usual talk of not needing to worry about it. During the game, the Forensic Scientist is NOT allowed to hint to the solution with words, gestures, or eyes.
