About this deal

Initially my seven year old grandson was frightened by the thought of monsters under the bed and wanted to abandon the book. The plot gave me such Home Alone vibes that I literally fell in love with it from page one and couldn't put it down. Norman was a pretty OK character, yes, I found him slightly annoying with his constant scout stuff, but I still liked how he was, along with Lucy, one of the kids who didn't go full crazy with all the freedom.

Tom's books have been translated into 40 languages, and to date he has sold over 5 million copies of his books in the UK alone. Since then, Tom has published several more chart-topping children's novels including The Christmasaurus and the Winter Witch, The Christmasaurus and the Naughty List, The Creakers and the instant number-one bestseller The Danger Gang . het eerst superleuk vinden om niet op de vingers getikt te worden door een volwassene, niet naar school hoeven te gaan, doen waar ze zin in hebben, maar uiteindelijk toch door hebben dat ze niet zonder hun ouders kunnen. Most children have wondered at some time or other if there is another world under their bed, and this story makes a light-hearted fantasy out of a common fear.

But sadly, they also find out that food is quickly depleting, and that the fun is not as fun the next day. I'd reccomend it for any young reader who loves a good scary story (but obviously not that scary because it is a children's book after all). We started it at the beginning of the summer holidays and didn't read it much and then read the Christmasaurs also by Tom Fletcher. Lucy reminds me a lot of myself when I was that age, although I do believe she's a tad bit braver than me, and the side characters that also show up are equally entertaining. Eenmaal je in het boek zit, snap je wel waar dat stof voor dient, maar haast je zodat jij er niet door beneveld geraakt.

Lucy and her friends must come up with a cunning plan to rescue the grown-ups, but if the stinky Creakers have anything to do with it, it’s not going to be easy!

Norman is eccentric, skilful and sweet and I was pleased to see a girl of colour in Ella, the sassiest six-year-old you will ever meet!

My 8 year old daughter's teacher has been reading this book to the class and my daughter was enjoying it so much she asked me to get her a copy for home. I really loved that the book had an underlying message of the importance and usefulness of recycling and being sustainable with our waste. Well, that’s exactly what Lucy Dungston and the children of Whiffington face one morning when they find all of their parents and teachers are nowhere to be seen.

A magical, mischievous adventure into an incredible new world, from Tom Fletcher, number-one-bestselling author of The Danger Gang and The Christmasaurus . He began working as an architectural illustrator and has worked as a graphic designer and now creates visual development art for animation productions and illustrates books.

The kids are at first quite afraid and want their moms/dads/family members, but then they find a note (so obvious, but hey they are kids) and they get to celebrating their new freedom! This story, helps children face their fears and learn to never judge a book by its cover; just because you’re different it doesn’t mean that you can’t be friends. Lucy soon finds that all of the children on her street seem to be facing the same fate – with their parents disappearing as well. From beginning to end it is a fast-paced page-turner; I was always on the edge of my seat wanting to know what happened next.
